We are looking for:
Steampunk vampire tales between 5,000 and 9,000 words. We are looking for smart/clever vampire tales wrapped in horror and suspense and dipped in the aesthetic of Steampunk. If you are unfamiliar with the term Steampunk there are several great websites we can suggest. You can also ask as many questions as you like of both Ryan and Erick, as well as the other members of the BlackSails Facebook group.
*HINT: we despise everything TYPICAL, so leap outside of the box, burn the box, then dance on its ashes. Use the Victorian Age, American Wild West, the future, or choose Mars as your setting and run with it, as long as the story is unique, intriguing and fun to read.
The rights we want:
First publishing rights, the right to use the story for as long as there is demand for the book, the right to edit each story for any missed grammatical errors, and the right to use parts of the book and/or the author's name for promotion.
*You retain all other rights and may republish the story.
At a minimum (subject to be added to, but not taken away), all authors will receive a free copy of the book, along with a drastically reduced price on ALL copies ordered by the author for their own book signings/events/etc. Also, we will link each author to our webpage (if you’d like) and have a Facebook page to help promote each author’s BlackSails AND non-BlackSails Press works.
This is to be our first publication, but if the response we've already had is any indication, BlackSails Press will grow and expand quickly and we would like to have a dedicated group of authors and artists to share in that growth. This is only the beginning of our voyage, and it is our hope that there will be plenty of rewards for joining the crew early.
